Sparks of Divine

SPARKS OF DIVINE
is one of my most meaningful and spiritual ketubah artworks.

The verse that surrounds the Sparks of Divine:
“From every human being there rises a light that reaches straight to heaven
and when two souls that are destined to be together find each other,
their streams of light flow together and a single brighter light goes forth
from their united being” (Ba’al Shem Tov)

This ketubah, shaped like the Middle East and adorned with Moorish elements, intertwines universal and Judaic themes. At the top, circles symbolize Israel, the land of milk and honey. The seven species are depicted, with six at the top and the seventh, wheat, positioned below among the lions. Olive branches of the tree of life encircle the ketubah, echoing the verse, “Your wife is like a fruitful vine that surrounds your table…” The vibrant grapes and leaves flow together in colorful harmony.

On the right side of the artwork, earthy tones of red conceal various golden Judaic symbols, including the Torah, a Jewish menorah, an ancient cup, harvest imagery, fish representing fertility, the Chamsa hand for good luck and protection.
The left side features a black background painted with the holy bible inscriber’s ink, which hides the sights and spirit of the Golden City of Jerusalem—its houses, the Montefiore windmill, the Kotel, the Wailing Wall, water waves, and a rising sun. Towering African candle holders burn with two divine sparks, while the melodies of the legendary Gibson Mandolin and the harp of David resonate softly in the background.
